Etiquette
One code, three parts
How a table runs at Sandstone Port, with one story in between the rules.
Before you sit
Getting a seat
- Bring ID — the house dealer can ask for it at any table, no exceptions.
- Buy chips at the urn corner first; tables don't handle cash once a hand's started.
- If every table's full, give your name to the dealer and you'll be seated as a chair opens.
- First time at a game? Say so, and someone will talk you through it before it's scored.
One evening
Four to a table, most Friday nights
Four is the number that matters on a Friday: bridge needs exactly that many, and one table is kept aside for it from five o'clock.
Regulars who've shared a table for years still get seated together first, though a newcomer is folded in the moment a four completes.
The games on offer
Euchre, bridge, five hundred and the rest
- Euchre's the Thursday headline — teams of two, bowers high, first to ten points.
- Bridge runs Friday at its own quieter table, with regulars who've been coming for years.
- Five hundred fills Saturday, usually the busiest night of the week here.
- Canasta and rummy share Sunday, side by side at neighbouring tables.
- Monday's friendly poker has no buy-in — chips are handed out at the door for the evening.
